Our Background
In the late 1970s, amidst a surge of racial tension, it was a challenging time for young Asian and Black men to play football outside their own community. However, undeterred by these obstacles, Mohinder Digania (Digsy), a Southall resident, led the formation of a football team comprising local young men of diverse ethnicities, predominantly of South Asian and Sikh origins.
Against all odds, the team went on to achieve numerous remarkable feats, firmly establishing itself in the more
mainstream football echelons, where Asian teams were still a minority.
Unfortunately, Mohinder passed before his time, but his sons, Arvinder and Jagjit (A&J), carried on his legacy and formed AFC Southall 15 years ago.
Both were in their early 20s but determined to build a football team that carried on the tradition of promoting young South Asian and ethnic minorities and allowing them to play football at the highest attainable level.
Over the past 15 years, A&J has built the club from humble beginnings to now playing in a strong Middlesex league.
They have spent countless hours and funding to build a reputable club that operates ethically, diversely, and
inclusively.
Our Aspirations
The driving factor for A&J has always been to provide opportunities to young men from diverse backgrounds to
play football at the highest achievable level.
In addition, they are very passionate about promoting South Asian, Black, and minority ethnic talent and strive
to coach and develop players from these backgrounds who could go on to achieve prominence beyond amateur
football.
Furthermore, the desire is to maintain and keep the club at the heart of its origins, Southall and provide opportunities for kids, boys and girls and young adults in and around the area to play football in a safe, inclusive and fun environment
